Bahrain Imposes Travel Ban Due to Ebola Outbreak

If you are planning to travel to Bahrain or have upcoming trips involving certain parts of Central and East Africa, please take note of new, urgent travel restrictions that have just been announced.

As of May 19, 2026, the Kingdom of Bahrain has implemented a 30 day entry ban for non-Bahraini travelers arriving from three specific African nations due to an escalating Ebola virus outbreak.

The travel ban applies to travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan.

The suspension applies to all non-Bahraini travelers arriving on flights from these nations. Furthermore, the ban also extends to anyone who has visited these three countries within the 30 days prior to their arrival in Bahrain.

Bahraini citizens returning from these affected regions are still permitted to enter the country, but they will be subject to mandatory health protocols and screening measures upon arrival.

How long will this last? Currently, the restriction is in place for 30 days. Authorities have noted that this policy is subject to ongoing review and may be adjusted based on how the situation evolves.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed serious concern regarding the speed and scale of the current Ebola outbreak, because the virus is highly contagious and the health situation in the affected areas is critical, several nations are taking steps to protect public health and prevent the spread of the virus across borders.

If you are scheduled to travel to or through these regions, please contact your airline or travel agent immediately to discuss your options. It is vital to monitor updates from official government sources and the World Health Organization for the most current travel advisories and health guidelines.
